You can make and receive calls with Android Auto. You'll hear your conversations through your car's speakers.

Receive a call

When you receive a call, a notification will appear on your Android Auto display with the caller's information. Tap the notification to accept the call and start the conversation. In some cars, you may also be able to accept a call with a button on your steering wheel. Check your car manual for instructions.

Make a call by voice
  1. Say "Hey Google" or select the microphone Microphone.
  2. Say what you'd like to do.

You can speak naturally and be understood when you talk to Gemini.

Try these example prompts:

  • I need to talk to [contacts name]. Can you call them?
  • Call [contact first name]’s [mobile, home, work] number.
  • Call [contact full name].
  • Can you call [phone number]?
  • Call my voicemail.

Gemini can make a call based on a relationship (e.g., “call my sister”) if the relationship is saved in your instructions for Gemini.

You can also use regular voice commands with Gemini or Google Assistant:

  • "Call [contact name]."
  • "Call home."
  • "Call [phone number]."

Keep in mind that you'll only be able to use call waiting for incoming calls, you won't be able to dial a second number once you're already on a phone call.
